Knights have day out with College Golf Fellowship!

The Knights and Lady Knights were treated to a fantastic day out at Starrhollow Golf Club by
College Golf Fellowship Friday 17th February.

Starrhollow is the No.1 rated 9 hole golf course in Texas.

The course was completely empty and we were able to play 27 holes in the absolute peace & quiet.
Marcus from CGF, treated the players to burgers made from beef raised on the ranch around the golf course and the players took encouragement from hearing his story about being the top rated junior in his class, playing at the University of Texas, playing with Tiger Woods and his quest for something more out of life via his faith in Jesus.

Whilst we are by no means a religious school or program, I think it was great to be hosted by Marcus and CGF. They are not bible bashers and don't drive Christianity down your throats......and Marcus is a top quality golfer whom the guys and girls enjoyed talking with.

This is something more than golf and having the opportunity to talk with Marcus and start to discover there may be something more in life than shooting good scores was an invaluable experience for me and my team.

All in all it was a fantastic day out, with great company and a phenomenal golf course!

Lady Knights start season in California

Your Lady Knights Golf Team started their season off in sunny San Diego at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational at Riverwalk Golf Club.

The ladies flew into San Diego on Saturday and enjoyed a day enjoying the sights San Diego has to offer as well as the beach, where we were lucky enough to see the sunset and dolphins jumping out of the water!!
Coach Belfield said "We have been ravaged by injury, so that although I brought four girls only two of them were healthy enough to play, with that being said we have had a good few weeks of practice and I am expecting some positive play".

On Sunday before our practice round we took a trip to the world renowned, Torrey Pines Golf course which has hosted US Opens and a PGA Tour event every year, just to have the chance to walk around the golf course and see the course which a week earlier had hosted a PGA Tour event was fantastic!

The Ladies started action on the back nine on the First day and started off strong with a number of pars on the first few holes, however the girls struggled with the greens which registered at 13.8 on the stimp meter!!
Coach Belfield "The greens were amongst the fastest I have ever seen and the greens were very slopey which made for some very difficult putts. Both Carol and Nicola struggled to adjust to the pace of the greens but most of all we struggled to adapt our chipping to the bounce and speed of the greens".
On the first day Nicola shot 110 and Carol was 97.

The second day brought a fresh start and even quicker greens!
Coach Belfield "Both Carol and Nicola were expecting much better play after the disappointment of the first round however they both started poorly before settling down on the back nine. Carol ended up shooting a solid score of 86 and Nicola was 105. I was disappointed to see Nicola shoot the scores she did as I believe it is only a matter of time before it is 90 or below, Carol played really nicely on the back nine shooting 39 after struggling on the front side".

Overall this was the type of trip that whilst, due to injury, we couldn't post a team score and although Carol and Nicola didn't play the golf they wanted to, makes you realise how lucky you are to play collegiate golf.
Playing at Northwood and playing collegiate golf is something not to be taken for granted and between the weather, dolphins, food and golf, the girls came away with the understanding that this was a trip they will remember for a long time.

Mental Management Systems visit players

Sports psychology is an ever increasing tool for golfers to find that extra shot.
We were blessed to be able to have Troy Bassham from Mental Management Systems visit the team to discuss and implement some ideas to help us improve our games & scores.
Troy has worked with numerous PGA Tour winners including Ben Crane, Fred Funk, Jerry Kelly & Rory Sabbatini.
Troy himself is a 12 time national champion in shooting and holds numerous national records.

This is an invaluable experience for the players as they try and push towards bettering themselves everyday, this is a crucial part of our learning process and it will hopefully lead to better scores in the near future!!
