Washington Wins, Andersen 2nd, Genna 5th as Knights finish 7th!

Your Northwood Knights hosted the Northwood Fall Shootout at Tangle Ridge GC in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Hosting teams from all around the nation including conference foes Wayland Baptist, Texas Wesleyan, annual Top 25 teams Houston-Victoria, Bethany and defending Red River Conference Champions St Thomas (TX).

The Knights 1st team for this week is Austin Hughes, Jeremy Novakowski, Daniel Stoakes, Austin Hunt and Carter Caldwell.
Second team was Drake Genna, Landon Moody, Juan Gallegos and Steven Anderson.
Playing as 'Unattached' Individuals were Dennis Andersen and Brandon Washington.

Played at 6900yds, Tangle Ridge is routinely home to low scores and this year proved no different. After the 1st Round Wayland Baptist took the lead shooting a solid 292 and backed up that round with 287, however the round of the day belonged to Texas Wesleyan who fired a 2nd round 279 to snatch the lead overnight.

The Knights shot a 296 to open the tournament but badly faltered in the 2nd round posting a 314.

Coach Belfield "The first round was OK, we didn't really do anything special but a good rounds from Daniel and Jeremy offset poor rounds from our No.4 & 5. The Second round however was easily the worst round I have seen in my 3 years in charge. Conditions were perfect and all the other teams made birdies in bunches.....we did exactly the opposite. I am expecting them to come out with a fire in their bellies tomorrow because that second round is not who we are, we are MUCH better than that".

The 3rd round the Knights shot 298 to finish in 7th place.

Coach Belfield "Similar to the 1st round we had Daniel's round which was a good round but then a whole lot of average to back it up. Much work is needed from many people if we are to achieve our goals, this team is a National Championship caliber squad. I expect them to be a very different team in the spring!".

The Second team had a much different story however as they were led by a superb T-5th finish by Drake Genna, playing solid throughout. Steven Anderson also showed his immense talent by firing his best round of the semester to finish off the tournament.
The story of the tournament however was the fight for 1st place between Northwood's own individuals Brandon Washington and Dennis Andersen. Dennis opened with a superb 66, faltered a little in the 2nd round and finished with a solid 71 to shoot (-3) 213 however after a sluggish 76 to start Brandon kicked into high gear to fire a 69 in the 2nd round and stunning 66 to take the win at (-4) 212.

Coach Belfield "You say why we are going to be different in the spring?!?! Brandon and Dennis are 2 of the Top players in the nation. I am pleased for Brandon, I think he will surprise a few people in the spring and anyone that has seen Dennis knows of his talent. If they keep there heads down and work hard during the off-season I expect them both to be All-Americans in the spring".

  Carter Caldwell (T34th 75-82-75) , Austin Hunt (T37th 78-77-78)

  Landon Moody (T45th 82-77-79) & Juan Gallegos (60th 81-82-84)
