Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 – No. 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third-consecutive poll, SCAD
Savannah (Ga.) sits atop the 2013 NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the
national office announced Friday. The Bees received 10-of-17 first-place votes
for 456 points to earn the No. 1 ranking in the third-regular season
edition.
SCAD Savannah returned to the course on April 6 when the Bees participated in
the Embry-Riddle (Fla.) Bash at the Beach. SCAD Savannah finished third out of
12 teams in that event, led by Alazne Urizar, who finished tied for second after
shooting rounds of 76-74 – 150; one stroke behind the winner Patrizia Trevisan
of NCAA Division I Bethune-Cookman (Fla.).
Moving up two spots to No. 2 is Oklahoma City, who received four first-place
votes and 439 points. The Stars finished second in the Kangaroo Invitational
hosted by NCAA Division I Missouri-Kansas City. Oklahoma City shot rounds of
301-303-319 for a total of 923, four strokes behind the winner. Holding steady
at No. 3 is Cal State San Marcos with one first-place vote and 434 points. The
Cougars participated in the NCAA Division II Sonoma State (Calif.) Spring
Invitational and finished in second-place with a team total of 956
(318-318-320).
Coming in tied at No. 4 is William Woods (Mo.) and Lubbock Christian (Texas).
Both teams received one first-place vote and tallied 427 points. William Woods
took first-place in both events it participated in over this past week. On April
2, William Woods won its own tournament, the Owls Invitational. The Owls
finished the week with a victory at the Washington (Mo.) University Spring
Invitational on April 5-7. Lubbock Christian finished fifth in the Dallas
Baptist (Texas) Invitational on April 2. The Chaps shots rounds of 316-300 – 616
during the two day event.
Three schools made the biggest move this week, Oklahoma City, Bethel (Ind.)
and Bellevue (Neb.), jumping two spots in the poll. Cumberland (Tenn.) slid the
farthest falling four positions.
Joining the Top 25 this week is No. 23 William Penn (Iowa) and No. 25
Oklahoma Baptist. William Penn took second in the Ashford (Iowa) Spring
Invitational on April 6. The Statesmen were lead by Maggie Yong, who tied for
second-place after shooting rounds of 79-80 – 159, one stroke behind the winner.
Oklahoma Baptist finished third in the Oklahoma Baptist Spring Invitational on
April 8. Whitney Manley led the Bison with rounds of 82-76 – 158 for a
fifth-place finish.
On the other end of the spectrum, Mobile (Ala.) (No. 24) and Grand View
(Iowa) (No. 25) fell out of the poll.
