Lady Knights take 3rd, break 2 school records!

Your Lady Knights competed in the Southwest Classic hosted by Dallas Baptist University at Tierra Verde GC in Arlington, TX.

Competing against one of the strongest fields of the season which included No.9 (DII) Midwestern State, No.14 (DII) Central Oklahoma, No.17 (DII) Dallas Baptist, No.22 (DII) Oklahoma Christian as well as No.2 (NAIA) Lubbock Christian.

Coach Belfield "I am really looking forward to this tournament, the girls have a bit of confidence, a bit of a swagger coming after their win last week. Although only 2 of the girls have seen Tierra Verde before, it is a really fun, scoreable golf course. I think they are going to enjoy it!"

Due to an uncertain forecast on Tuesday, the ladies played 27 holes on Monday.
Round 1 started in glorious sunshine as the ladies started well, posting a solid 307 to lie in 3rd place through 18. Led by Senior Esther Kang and Freshman Fariza Zain's 73, the Lady Knights posted a score 1 shot off the school record!

The Ladies then turned right back around and start the next 9 holes, firing a team score of +5.

Coach Belfield "It was a decent first round score, we committed a couple of silly mistakes that stopped us from being at the top of the leaderboard but overall not a bad round. The 9 holes after was very good however! Laura really turned it around and posted a good 9, same as Daniela. Esther & Fariza both continued their good play. We are looking forward finishing it off tomorrow!"

The Lady Knights came out to a slower start than they wanted in the final 9 holes but recovered nicely to smash the school record by 5 shots!! Led by a superb 72 by Fariza Zain as she tied fellow Freshman Laura Deleonardis's 36 hole scoring record! The Knights were passed by Midwestern State but held onto 3rd as they beat Central Oklahoma, Lubbock Christian as well as 4 other strong teams.

Coach Belfield "What a great way to go into conference! We are the hottest team in the NAIA right now! It is so great to see my girls playing with confidence and living up to the high standards we have for each other.
We need to put in some work before Nationals to cut out a couple of loose shots/swings that are holding us back from shooting under 300 but it is great to see us playing to a high level. I am especially pleased for Fariza who has worked at a particular weakness all term, and the work is starting to pay off! It was also great to see Esther get back to playing at the level she was before she got injured.
We look forward to challenge of getting better before Nationals, so that we can really be at our peak!"

Led by Fariza Zain 3rd with 73-72, Esther Kang (T5th 73-76), Daniela Martinez (T22nd 81-75), Laura Deleonardis (T27th 80-78) and Carol Galindo (44th 83-84).
