Knights finish 8th in loaded NAIA tournament

Your Lady Knights ventured to Oklahoma City to play in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University at Lincoln Park Golf Course.

The Lady Knights are coming off a strong performance at their first tournament the Hawks Creek Classic hosted last week in Ft Worth. They come to a tournament hosted by the defending National Champions Oklahoma City, No.1 JUCO team in the nation Redlands CC and No.3 DII Oklahoma Christian as well as a number of top NAIA teams including conference foes Texas Wesleyan, Oklahoma Baptist and Wayland Baptist.

The Knights started this 54 hole tournament off in perfect conditions (unusual in OKC!) and with beautful bent grass greens were primed to shoot a solid score.
In the first round they shot a 321 and were led by Senior Fariza Zain with a solid 73, the second round brought more frustration on the greens however as the Lady Knights unable to get anything going and posted a 319.
In the second round, the Lady Knights were paced by another under par round by Daniela Martinez (1 under) and backed up by Fariza with a decent 77.

Coach Belfield "Well we had perfect conditions today, Daniela and Fariza have both played pretty good but we haven't got the lowest scores from Carol, Nicola & Caitlin. We expect all three of them to perform to a much higher level which will help push us up the field. The problem today was putting......when we won conference here in April we 3-putted a lot but today was even worse. If we can clean up the sloppiness on the greens we could start firing much better scores".

Round 3 was again played in near perfect conditions, a touch more wind than the first day but conditions that suggested scores were going to be as low as yesterday.
The Lady Knights again struggled to get anything going on the greens but improved slightly to shoot 314 and finish in 8th ahead of Wayland Baptist, Oklahoma Baptist and Lubbock Christian.

Led by Fariza Zain's 72, Daniela was 77 and Caitlin had a much improved 80 in the final round.

The Lady Knights have a couple of weeks off before starting a stretch of 3 weeks in a row at DII tournaments.

Led by  Fariza Zain T5th (73-77-72), Daniela Martinez placed T8th with 78-71-77,
 Carol Galindo (53rd 83-83-87), Nicola Jeffries (63rd 87-88-85)
Caitlin Cole (T65th 88-94-80).
