A field consisting of DI, DII, DIII, Top JUCO and NAIA teams tussled in heat and a superb golf course to start the season.
The first day was played in perfect conditions and it showed as scoring was good across the board. For the Lady Knights scoring was led by Sophomore Daniela Martinez who tied the single round school record of 2 under par to lead the tournament overnight by 2.
The Lady Knights shot a first round 306 to lay in 4th place going into the final round.
Daniela's sterling score was backed up by solid shooting from Fariza Zain (76), Caitlin Cole (79), Carol Galindo (81) and Nicola Jeffries (84).
The second round again brought stellar conditions as the Lady Knights sought to pick up shots from the leaders. It was a different story on the greens however as not as many putts dropped and pins were a little tougher.
The Lady Knights fired a second round 321 to fall to 5th place.
Daniela Martinez led the team, finishing on 148 after a second round 78. Fariza Zain finished in 8th after following here opening 76 with a much improved 74.
Coach Belfield "I was really impressed in the first round, we actually didn't play great (apart from Daniela!) but we really held it together down the stretch. I was really pleased to see Daniela fire a great score! She finished with a stunning second shot into the Par 5 18th to leave her 2ft for eagle, a nice way to finish the round!! The second round we were a lot more sloppy around and on the greens, we have much to improve on before next weeks tournament."
