Lady Knights smash tournament record in Victory!!

Your Lady Knights finished their fall schedule by playing in the UTB Fall Invitational along with 5 DII & NAIA schools at South Padre Island Golf Course hosted by conference rivals UT-Brownsville.

Played in beautiful conditions the first round was idyllic! The Lady Knights led by Laura Deleonardis fired an opening 314 to lead the tournament by 16 strokes from Houston Victoria.

Laura fired 75 to lead the tournament, Fariza Zain 77, Daniela Martinez 78, Esther Kang 84 and Carol Galindo 87.

Coach Belfield "I was really pleased to see a 'team' score. Last tournament Laura carried us a bit but this time she had a couple of challengers! We are 16 shots in the lead and we have are 1, 2 & 3 in the individuals rankings, we are playing well so I expect them to finish it off! We have been playing some good golf for a while now, our short games and putting still have so much room to improve in order for us to go from a Top 15 team to a Top 3 team.......but these ladies have plenty enough talent to do it.....!"

The final round brought another perfect day on the links and the scores lowered as a result! The Lady Knights fired a superb 308 to win the tournament by 24 & break the 36 hole scoring record of 628 by 6 strokes!

Coach Belfield "We spoke before the round, about not were we going to win, but how much were we going to win by. I challenged the Top 3 to compete against each other to see who will win to make sure we were focusing ahead, not behind. The girls did this superbly! Laura again played superbly to win the tournament firing a 74 and win the tournament!

The girls now have the off season to work on their areas of weakness and improve, if we do and the girls make sure that this is the key time to make changes and improve......we could be scary good.

The girls are starting to believe how good we actually could be and it’s nice to see us playing like we know we are going to play well!! Roll on the spring!!"

 

Led by Laura Deleonardis 1st (75-74), Fariza Zain placed 2nd with 77-76, Daniela Martinez 3rd 78-76, Junior Carol Galindo (T10th 87-82) and Esther Kang (18th 84-92).
