Off Season workouts with Team Trinity!

Golfers are typically known for their lack of athleticism and Hawaiian shirts! Whilst this has changed a lot in recent years, in large part to Tiger Woods and his fitness routine, there is still the common perception that golfers aren't great athletes.

This program and the players I have are the complete opposite of that.
They are true athletes in every sense of the word!

I was trying to plan these Off-Season workouts and trying to find something that would test every level of their fitness whilst being something different & interesting.

As such I decided to test the waters and try out MMA training with Brandon Quick & Team Trinity!
The MMA guys/girls are quick, strong, agile, powerful and aerobically superb.......plus we get to learn and try something that we never have or be inclined to try out otherwise........Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!

The biggest benefit to this training, much like any other serious training, is toughness. Mental toughness.
The training we have been doing is brutally tough on the body but most of all on the mind. If we can fight through the pain & sweat of these workouts, how much tougher are we going to come out the other side!

Mental toughness is truly earned.

The teams have enjoyed being worked out harder than ever before and we know it will pay dividends on the links and in life in the future.

If you would like to know more about Brandon and all that he has to offer, here is his website.

Knights & Lady Knights Fall Season - Recap

Well the Fall season has come and gone!
This is a great chance for me to review where we are at and, quite honestly, brag about my team!!

We have managed to Break/Tie, just a couple of records.......!!
  • Men's Team 36 Hole record
  • Men's Team 54 Hole record
  • Men's Individual 36 Hole record (Derek Trofimczuk)
  • Men's Individual 36 Hole record vs Par (Derek Trofimczuk)
  • Men's Individual 54 Hole record (Derek Trofimczuk)
  • Tied Men's Individual 54 Hole record vs Par (Derek Trofimczuk)
  • Tied Lowest Score to Par Men's 18 Hole record
  • Women's Team 18 Hole record
  • Women's Team 36 Hole record
  • Women's Individual 18 Hole record (Laura Deleonardis)
  • Women's Individual 36 Hole record (Laura Deleonardis)
  • Women's Individual 18 Hole record vs Par (Laura Deleonardis)
  • Women's Individual 36 Hole record vs Par (Laura Deleonardis)
  • Women's Most Rounds Even/Under Par in a Season
  • Women's Most Rounds Even/Under Par in a Career
Records in Danger (currently being broken)
  • Men's Season Scoring Average
  • Women's Season Scoring Average
  • Women's Individual Season Scoring Average
To add to this........
  • The Highest simultaneous rankings in NAIA national poll in NU history (10th & 15th)
  • Currently have 3 Men ranked inside Top 75 golfers in NAIA
    • (Derek- 35th, Joss- 53rd & Carter- 71st)
  • Currently have 2 Women ranked inside Top 30 golfers in NAIA
    • (Laura- 14th & Fariza- 28th)
  • Both Teams currently have 11th best Scoring Average in the Nation
The Knights have only shot above 299 twice and whilst their first tournament wasn't up to par, they rebounded quickly to win their next tournament. They have beaten many of the Top teams in the Nation and I honestly think they only played VERY well in one round this fall. They are a team full of potential and talent. If they make sure this Off-Season is full of production and they work hard (On & Off) the course, this is truly a National Championship Contending squad.

The Lady Knights have only shot above 315 twice and have been very solid the entire term.
We managed to beat the team that I believe is the No.1 ranked team in the nation, Lubbock Christian (no matter what the official rankings say!) and we competed well with a young team and a strong schedule.
I have 5 freshman on the team and, just like the guys, if they use this Off-Season to push each other and grow we could be in the Top 5 really quickly.
Our youth will not be used as an excuse, because these Ladies are good enough RIGHT NOW!

The Spring promises to be an exciting time for both teams as we search to do things that NU has never been able to do before!

Thank you for supporting the Northwood Golf Program by following their success & progress!

Lady Knights smash tournament record in Victory!!

Your Lady Knights finished their fall schedule by playing in the UTB Fall Invitational along with 5 DII & NAIA schools at South Padre Island Golf Course hosted by conference rivals UT-Brownsville.

(from left) Fariza Zain, Daniela Martinez, Laura Deleonardis, Carol Galindo, Esther Kang

Played in beautiful conditions the first round was idyllic! The Lady Knights led by Laura Deleonardis fired an opening 314 to lead the tournament by 16 strokes from Houston Victoria.
Laura fired 75 to lead the tournament, Fariza Zain 77, Daniela Martinez 78, Esther Kang 84 and Carol Galindo 87.

Coach Belfield "I was really pleased to see a 'team' score. Last tournament Laura carried us a bit but this time she had a couple of challengers! We are 16 shots in the lead and we have are 1, 2 & 3 in the individuals rankings, we are playing well so I expect them to finish it off! We have been playing some good golf for a while now, our short games and putting still have so much room to improve in order for us to go from a Top 15 team to a Top 3 team.......but these ladies have plenty enough talent to do it.....!"

The final round brought another perfect day on the links and the scores lowered as a result! The Lady Knights fired a superb 308 to win the tournament by 24 & break the 36 hole scoring record of 628 by 6 strokes!

Coach Belfield "We spoke before the round, about not were we going to win, but how much were we going to win by. I challenged the Top 3 to compete against each other to see who will win to make sure we were focusing ahead, not behind. The girls did this superbly! Laura again played superbly to win the tournament firing a 74 and win the tournament!
The girls now have the off season to work on their areas of weakness and improve, if we do and the girls make sure that this is the key time to make changes and improve......we could be scary good.
The girls are starting to believe how good we actually could be and it’s nice to see us playing like we know we are going to play well!! Roll on the spring!!"

Led by Laura Deleonardis 1st (75-74), Fariza Zain placed 2nd with 77-76, Daniela Martinez 3rd 78-76, Junior Carol Galindo (T10th 87-82) and Esther Kang (18th 84-92).

RESULTS!!
