Lady Knights finish 11th at Bluebonnet Classic

Your Lady Knights continued their season with an 11th place finish at their home tournament, The Bluebonnet Classic at Tangle Ridge GC.

The weather was absolutely perfect with no clouds and the temperature reaching the upper 80's.
The Lady Knights struggled the first day posting a 372, to languish in 11th place. They were led by Senior Bailey Bearden who shot a fighting 83.

Coach Belfield "The Girls really struggled today, a combination of poor putting and even poorer attitudes were the culprits. When we only have 4 girls playing we have our backs against the wall and you have to have 4 players fighting for each other on every shot, for the first time this year we didn't have that."

The second day brought renewed optimism however and the attitudes were where Northwood Knights players are expected to be.
The results didn't quite show for the Knights however as they continued their struggles on the greens and were unable to get anything going.

"We shot a 364, but it was about as bad as we could score. We just didn't do a good job of getting the ball in the hole!! The main thing is that our long games were better and our attitudes and outlook was back to where it should be and normally is!! We have to continue to take away the positives and learn from the things we didn't do quite so well, we have 4 girls that are slowly progressing in the hopes of winning nationals and these road bumps will only help us grow stronger."

The Lady Knights finished in 11th place out of 14 teams. Bailey Bearden led the team (83-86), Carol Galindo posted (88-84), Kirstie Krueger (97-92) and Nicola Jeffries (104-102).

The Lady Knights continue their season at the OBU Invitational in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Lady Knights finish 16th in rain shortened event!

Your Lady Knights finished 16th at the Midwestern State Invitational held at Weeks Park Golf course in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The first day was rained out as a massive storm rolled through and dropped approx. 3" of rain in one day!!

The second day brought perfect golfing conditions and the girls were raring to go. The tournament is one of the stronger DII tournaments held at this time of the year, so we knew that the scores were going to be low!

The team played pretty well firing a 357 to finish 16th. Leading the team with an 84 was Sophomore Carol Galindo, Freshman Kirstie Krueger was 87, Bailey Bearden & Nicola Jeffries both shot 93.

"This tournament provided us with a lot of positive things to take away and learn from! Carol shot 2 over on the front side, Nicola smashed her personal best and the things we have been working on are starting to take shape. When Carol starts believing that she is and can be an elite player her scores will drop!! Nicola has been putting in all the hard work on the areas of the game she needs to and this should be a big boost to her!"

The Lady Knights continue their path to the Conference Championship when they host a field of strong teams in their home tournament, The Bluebonnet Classic, at Tangle Ridge GC next week.

Knights finish 12th at UST Mamiya Invitational

Your Northwood Knights continued their season at the UST Mamiya Invitational hosted by Texas Wesleyan and played at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Ft Worth.

In the First round Joss Gosling & Derek Trofimczuk both shot 73 to lead the team, Drake Genna (81), Travis Kemp (81) and JT Zaiger (82) as the Knights struggled to a 308 and languishing in 14th place.

The Second round brought another tough round as the Knights posted 302.
This did move them up to 12th position but it was another tournament that the young knights will be disappointed in.
They were led by Junior, Travis Kemp who posted a much improved one under par, 71 in the second round. JT Zaiger also posted a much improved 75, Derek Trofimczuk (77) Joss Gosling (79) and Drake Genna (80).

Coach Belfield "This was our most disappointing tournament to date. The conditions were perfect and the guys were playing well we just messed up a few holes the first round and finished poorly in the second. The guys can now have their spring break and rest up a little before we enter our most important tournaments.
There is plenty to improve on thus far in the spring but this team is learning and maturing all the time and I expect them to bounce back and use this to get stronger."

The Knights next tournament will in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Baptist Spring Classic on April 2nd & 3rd.

Knights finish in Top 10 at TPC!

The Knights Men's Golf team continued their journey towards the National Championship as they hosted numerous ranked teams from all over the nation at the TPC Four Seasons, home of the PGA Tour event, The Bryon Nelson Championship.

Included in the field was No.1 team in the nation, Oklahoma Christian, No.2 Grandview, No.3 Oklahoma City, No.4 Texas Wesleyan and No.6 Johnson & Wales. There were also Rogers State (17th), St Thomas (15th) Houston Victoria (19th), and Southeastern (26th).

Coach Belfield "This was probably the strongest tournament we have ever been involved in outside of Nationals. The course is also one of the finest golf courses we have ever been able to play a tournament on! We have had a few good days of practice and have been afforded the luxury of being able to play a couple of times out here before the tournament. I expect us to compete well and show the nation what type of team we are!"

The first round was started in perfect conditions, no wind and mid 60's weather!
The Knights however could not take advantage as they posted a 307.
Led by freshman Joss Gosling's 73, Travis Kemp followed with a solid 75, JT Zaiger 78, Daniel Stoakes 81 and Forrest Bench's 82.
Coach Belfield "The top 2 players once again proved to be solid however we have had a problem in the fall and in the spring thus far of having zero input from the 3/4/5 players. Unfortunately this proved to be our downfall once again however I was hoping to see some rebound in the second round"

The second round proved to be just as fruitless as the Knights struggled to a 313.
"The second round the wind picked up and made a tough course much tougher: we did ourselves no favors however as we just played poorly and were not able to grind out good results."
The Knights were led in the second round by Junior Travis Kemp with another 75. Joss Gosling had 76, Daniel Stoakes 78, Forrest Bench 84 and Jt Zaiger with an 86.

Tuesday morning and the third round presented a considerable challenge for the Knights not only to get back into the tournament but 30mph were whipping around TPC Four Seasons.
The Knights showed a lot more fight and better play as they salvaged the tournament with a relatively solid 310 to finish 9th.
Coach Belfield "The guys showed a lot more fight and although they were not pleased with the scores, other teams did not cope as well with the tougher conditions and we were able to make this tournament respectable".

The Knights continue their season at Hawks Creek GC, Ft Worth in conference rivals, Texas Wesleyan's tournament.

Knights start season in San Antonio!

Your Northwood Knights Men's golf team started the season at the The Bandit Golf Couse in New Braunfels, Texas.

The weather was perfect for the first 36 holes as the Knights set out on their journey to the national championship.
The Knights were set to play against one of the strongest fields that will be assembled, anywhere in the nation during the spring season. The field included back to back defending National Champions, Oklahoma Christian, 3rd Ranked Oklahoma City, 5th ranked and conference foes, Texas Wesleyan as well as the another 9 teams ranked inside the Top 30 teams.

Coach Belfield "I knew this was a strong field but ultimately we play nobody but the golf course. I am expecting them to play solid but most of all stick to their mental routines and progress on that side of the ball!"

The guys struggled on the first day to execute shots. "I thought we did a good job executing our routines and sticking to a game plan, we just didn't hit too many good shots and couldn't really get anything going."
Freshman Joss Gosling led the team with a 75-78, Travis Kemp responded well after a tough first round firing 84-73, Jeremy Novakowski was 78-84, Derek Trofimczuk was 79-80 and Chris Craft shot 81-83.

"After a tough first day, I was expecting to see some fire out of the guys and start hitting golf shots we know we are capable of".

The Knights only managed to consolidate their position the second day and finished in 10th place shooting 313-314-307.
"It was much of the same story on the final day, I will put it down to early season rust but the guys were very disappointed in their performance. It wasn't what we expected and it was very 'Un-Northwood like'. We were sloppy and couldn't find a way to get the ball in the hole"
Joss Gosling led the Knights with a much improved final round of 72 and finished T-17. Travis Kemp finished T-43 (79), Derek Trofimczuk T-46 (78), Chris Craft T-55 (78) and Jeremy Novakowski T-57 (83).
